Choosing floor tiles
A floor takes more wear than any other surface in the house, so it is worth matching the tile to how the room is used.
Think about foot traffic
Entrances, corridors and shops need a hard-wearing tile. Bedrooms and quiet rooms can use a more decorative one. Check what use a tile is intended for before you decide.
Polished or matte
Polished tiles look glossy and reflect light, but show water and footprints and can be slippery when wet. Matte and textured finishes give better grip and hide marks, which suits kitchens, balconies and bathrooms.
Size and the room
Large tiles have fewer joints and make a room look bigger, but need a flat base. Smaller tiles are easier to lay in tight spaces and on uneven shapes.
Measure, then add a margin
Work out the floor area and add a margin for cuts and breakage. Keep a few spare tiles from the same batch, because colour can differ slightly between batches.
